Nursing Home Care
While many Hospice Buffalo participants receive care in their homes, the Hospice nursing home program enables us to bring our particular expertise to residents of long term skilled nursing facilities. The program's purpose is to allow residents in the advanced stages of illness to remain in familiar and supportive surroundings while receiving palliative (comfort-focused) care. Hospice enhances the specialized expertise of the nursing home team with the special care, emotional support and guidance residents and their families need during this distressing time.
Hospice welcomes nursing home residents in their final six months of illness. Our program becomes an option when curative therapy is not possible or when residents choose not to accept or continue curative treatment.
Hospice Buffalo serves more than 40 nursing homes in Erie County. Click here for a list of nursing homes and adult care facilities.
Admission is based on medical need, not the ability to pay. Insurance coverage is available through most third party insurers, including Medicare and Medicaid.
Hospice Buffalo has agreements with all major area hospitals to accept Hospice nursing home residents if more intensive medical care becomes necessary.
