Family Support
Our child life specialists work very closely with your child to ease any fears and offer the support needed to understand what's going on. One of the unique ways we try to answer any questions is through play. We talk to children in language that's appropriate for their age, so it's easier for them to talk about what they're going through and how they feel about it. We use role playing, puppets, games, music therapy and art therapy to help children understand.
Siblings of your sick child may feel lost in the shuffle. They may suffer from a loss of your time and attention. Our child and adolescent specialists will give siblings the support they need to better understand the situation and cope with what's happening.
Being a parent is often a balancing act. You struggle to balance your responsibilities at home and work, and to make sure you spend quality time with your spouse and children. When one of your children is sick, keeping your balance is even more difficult. At Essential Care, we have social workers who will focus on your needs and help you maintain your balance - whether you just want to get away for a cup of coffee and some quiet time, or need help understanding your medical bills. If you need additional support, we can refer you to other community organizations for help.
